Ziplock Omelettes

Yep! Omelettes made in ziplock bags! My mom heard about this in an email forward or somewhere and sent me the instructions. Just this morning I was trying to decide what to make for breakfast and thought I’d give it a shot.

To make these things, you basically crack two eggs into a quart-sized ziplock bag and throw in the ingredients. Shake the bag until it’s all blended, then place the bag in a pot of boiling water. I left them in for twenty minutes (until they were completely cooked), and then rolled them out onto the plates. Presto!

The nice thing here is that you can make them with a group of people, everyone can choose their own ingredients, and they all cook at the same time. I must warn you that they don’t taste quite like omelettes, but sort of like a cross between scrambled and poached eggs. Be that as it may, the experiment was fun and tasty.

1. get the ingredients ready
2. put the eggs in the bag
3. add the stuff you want in it and let the air out of the bag before zipping it shut (remember the air will expand as it heats)
4. put the bags in the boiling water- the bag will melt if it leans on the pot too long; try to keep it from sitting directly on the hot metal
